The TOOLBOX is a place to learn healthy coping skills, challenge your thinking, and take back your personal power. It’s a place to begin learning how to move on from the effects of toxic people, unhealthy relationships, and especially narcissistic mothers (“Lemon Moms”).
What’s a Lemon Mom? She’s a mom who lacks the ability to love & nurture her children, accept them, or help them feel safe & secure. Her children grow up to feel “not good enough,” unloved, misunderstood, unimportant, & adopt the belief that they don’t matter.
As I’m fond of saying, your mother doesn’t need a formal “diagnosis” for you to determine that your relationship with her is unhealthy, or to start making positive changes.
I wrote “Lemon Moms: A Guide to Understand and Survive Maternal Narcissism” as a way to safely walk fellow travelers through the chaos and confusion of maternal narcissism: what it is, what it does, and how to move on from its effects. With laid back narrative, personal examples, and action-oriented steps, it teaches you how to decode the crazy-making behavior, and learn new coping skills and strategies to move forward and live your best life.
Much of what I write here is based, and expands, on what’s in the book. It is a combination of my education, knowledge, and personal healing journey regarding my childhood and adult mother/daughter experiences. I hope you learn a lot and enjoy what’s here. I especially hope that you celebrate your progress and keep moving forward.
